“Sledge-O-Matic” wielding comedian Gallagher, best known as the watermelon-smashing, prop-using, food hurling, word play funny man, will take to the Deadwood Mountain Grand stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014.
His signature sketch the "Sledge-O-Matic,” a large wooden mallet that Gallagher uses to smash a variety of objects, most famously, watermelons, the act is a parody of ads for the Ronco Veg-O-Matic, a kitchen appliance that was heavily advertised on television in the mid-1960s and 1970s.
A Gallagher concert is an unforgettable experience. Known to shower his audience with the pulverized remains of apples, oranges, lettuce, cottage cheese, and pound cakes, show- goers sometimes turn up already “Gallagherized,” wearing plastic raincoats, goggles, sunglasses, and often refer to the front of the theatre as “Death Row.”
Gallagher got his first taste of life on tour in 1976 as Jim Stafford's road manager.
To date he has done sixteen specials: Uncensored Evening, Mad as Hell, Too Real, Totally New, That's Stupid, Stuck in the 60's, The Maddest, Melon Crazy, The Bookkeeper, Over Your Head, The Messiest of Overboard, The Leap Year Marathon, We Need a Hero, Smashing Cheeseheads, and the most recent Sledge-O-Matic.com.
The comedian is a keen and original observer of human nature and the American scene.
"My humor makes people think," Gallagher said. "I want people to look more closely at this country and their lives to see the humor and absurdity in it all …I don't have to make it up, the truth is funny enough."
"Bring on the Sledge-O-Matic,” said Deadwood Mountain Grand Sales, Marketing and Event manager Susan Kightlinger. "We’re looking forward to laughing it up at this highly unique comedy act Gallagher has invented and perfected over the years.”
