DEADWOOD, S.D. (03/27/17) – An artist that has sold 30 million albums, been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards, has appeared in multiple major motion pictures and television shows and has been called “the most sparkling singer-songwriter since Joni Mitchell”, by Neil Young and Bob Dylan, will be headlining the Deadwood Mountain Grand stage on Friday, October 13th as part of the annual Wild West Songwriter’s Festival.
As a story, Jewel's origin is impossible to beat. On her way up, the singer/songwriter lived in a van on the West Coast, struggling to find an entrance to a career as a professional musician. This hardscrabble tale, only enhanced by her Alaskan upbringing, stood in direct contrast to the sweet, gentle hits "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me," and "Foolish Games" from her 1995 debut Pieces of You, songs that never suggested a tough background.
Jewel has a made a name for herself in more genres than just pop music, showing her strength in poetry, dance music, as host of the television competition show ‘The Sing Off’ as well as working with John Rich of Big & Rich fame to produce the hit country album ‘Perfectly Clear’ that debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Charts in 2008.
“It is incredibly exciting to have a singer/songwriter the caliber of Jewel perform during the Wild West Songwriter’s Festival,” said Deadwood Mountain Grand Resort Manager, Susan Kightlinger. “The event just continues to grow and to host someone that has written so many hits over the years will make it a weekend to remember.”
