DEADWOOD, SD. (11/12/19) – A giant of a man that has brought smiles to thousands over the years as an old west re-enactor and general ambassador of good will throughout the Black Hills of South Dakota is now in a battle for his life, and his friends, celebrities and loved ones are rallying to raise money for Big Dave Murra.
His 7’ 3” frame has its share of problems over the years, but his biggest problem is his pancreas. It is 100% non-functional and has had a port inserted to drain the poison in his body. He needs surgery, but until he is well enough to have an operation he needs to travel back and forth to Minneapolis for treatments. Dave’s sister has been paying their rent because he has been unable to work and it has been quite a strain on the entire family.
Much love has been shown Big Dave since he became ill but now the entire region including his friends in the music world are coming together to help raise money for his expenses. Big Kenny Alphin of Big & Rich wants everyone to know that his friend Dave needs assistance. “Brothers and Sisters! Big Dave’s barreling tall frame and bullwhip have entertained thousands throughout the Black Hills for years,” said Kenny via email. He was a Wild West performer even before Big & Rich met him in Deadwood during our “Horse Of A Different Color” album photo shoot back in 2004. And now after thousands of shows putting smiles on faces, Big Dave needs our help. Please read his story and if you can find it in your heart, sling him a Twenty or a Benji or whatever you can. It’s easy on the Gofund.com site his friends have set up. No doubt every little bit will help and no doubt we’re all looking forward to seeing Dave healthy again and crackin’ that long ass whip as all his fans are astonished and cheering. We love you Big Dave! Let’s do this!!”
Big Dave is currently on a feeding tube and his large frame weighs less than 200 pounds right now. His surgery will remove his pancreas, spleen, and a large part of his intestines. Family and friends sincerely hope he makes it to surgery but until then, need help to defray costs of rent, gas, hotels and food for this kind-hearted giant of a man. They are asking the community to show him the same kindness he has shown countless strangers over the years and give to this amazing man.
